Here you will find all the information you need to prepare the
system for use. This description contains the instruction for
setting up the client on Solaris operating system. First you have
to obtain required software packages. Below there are some hints
related to which packages you need and why they are essential.
This is the main component of the client. It contains files
required for executing application version of the client. After
unpacking you have to change the contents of the file
"config.defs" which stores the path names of the installed
packages.
The application is available here .
The applet version of the client is distributed together with the
application version mentioned above.
This is the MPEG-1 player based on JMF1.1. You may use the player
separately from the client application. It is started by the
"player" script with the following syntax:
player netdoc://address:port/mpg
where:
address - local or multicast address where a movie is
being received
port - the port number for receiving
data
You can download the separate player application from here, although it is also
bundled with the full client application.
This is the core of the SVDA system. The compressed file contains the
video server CORBA proxy, the archive server CORBA proxy (see architecture description), the
main SVDA server (see architecture
description) and the client application descibed above. Downloading the file is enough to
run a fully functionable system.
You need this package to run the Java1.1 version of the
application. The direcory containing the installed package has to
be specified in the "config.defs" file using the "JAVA_HOME"
item.
The JDK1.1 package is available from Java(TM)
Development Kit 1.1.
These classes are used by the Java1.1 version of the application
and therefore are required for this version of the application to
work. They are, however, not used by the Java1.2 version, so if
you are going to merely run Java1.2 version you do not need
them. The directory containing the installed classes should be
specified in the "config.defs" file under the "ORBIXWEB_HOME"
item. The library can be downloaded from OrbixWeb3.0 library.
The Java1.1 version of the client needs the classes from this
package. They are available here. You
have to specify a directory containing downloaded "swinall.jar"
file in the "config.defs" file.
This package is required for executing the Java1.2 version of the
application. The directory containing the installed package
should be specified in the "config.defs" file with the
"JAVA2_HOME" item. The package is available from Java(TM) 2
SDK, Standard Edition.
The Java Media Framework is a set of classes and libraries
required for the player application to operate. The package is
available from
Java(TM) Media Framework 1.1 - Download.
You have to download and install a version with a performance
pack included in order to play MPEG-1 movies. After installing you
must ensure that the file "config.defs" contains the line which
specifies the JMF_HOME variable.
The plugin is required by web browsers to be able to execute the
applet version of the client based on Java1.2. This version of the
applet is a preferred way of running the client within a browser
because of the small size of the applet itself resulting in
reduced startup time. In comparison to Java1.1 applet where all
Swing and OrbixWeb classes have to be downloaded into the browser
it is a significant improvement in speed the use of the network
resources. You should notice that in order to run the applet
within a browser you do not need any of the other packages
mentioned here. For Java 1.2 applet version you only need Java 1.2
plugin software installed in your browser. The plugin can be
downloaded from Java
Plug-in Download Page.
The following table summarizes requirements for each version of
the client:
